Extension Care Guide

Properly cared-for BeU extensions can last twice as long. Follow this guide to protect your investment.

Daily Care Essentials

These rules apply to all extension methods, every day.

Brush Before You Wash

Always detangle gently from ends to roots using a loop brush or wide-tooth comb before washing. This prevents knots from tightening during the wash process.

Use Sulfate-Free Products

Sulfates strip moisture and weaken keratin bonds. Use a sulfate-free, bond-safe shampoo and conditioner specifically formulated for extensions.

Wash in Downward Strokes

Always wash hair in a downward motion - never scrub in a circular motion. This preserves the cuticle alignment and prevents tangling.

Condition Below the Bonds

Apply conditioner only from mid-length to ends. Conditioner near bonds or tapes can loosen the adhesive and reduce longevity significantly.

Air Dry When Possible

Let extensions air dry to at least 80% before using any heat tools. Always use a heat protectant before blow drying or flat ironing.

Sleep with a Loose Braid

Before bed, put your extensions in a loose low braid or ponytail to prevent overnight tangling and matting. A silk or satin pillowcase also dramatically reduces friction.

Method-Specific Care

Each application method has unique maintenance requirements.

Genius Weft & Machine Weft

Schedule a maintenance appointment every 6–8 weeks to move rows up as natural hair grows.
Use a soft paddle brush - never a detangling brush with balls on the bristle tips near the seam.
Avoid applying heavy dry shampoos, serums, or oils directly onto the weft seam.
Have cut ends re-sealed by your stylist if you notice any shedding.

Tape-In Extensions

Return to your stylist every 6–8 weeks for a move-up (re-tape) appointment.
Avoid oily products near the tape bonds - oils break down the adhesive over time.
Do not apply conditioner within 2 inches of the bonds.
Tapes can be reused up to 3 times with fresh adhesive tabs.

K-Tip Extensions

Avoid using bond-weakening products (oil-based serums, heavy conditioners) near the keratin bonds.
Never use a straightener directly on the bonds - keep the flat iron at least 1 cm away.
Schedule removal and reinstallation every 3–6 months for maximum hair health.
Deep condition the mid-lengths and ends between appointments.

Clip-In Extensions

Remove clip-ins before sleeping, swimming, and showering - they are not designed for extended wear.
Wash clip-ins every 15–20 wears or when product buildup is visible.
Store clip-ins flat in a hair extension organizer or original packaging.
Keep clips clean and free of hair - buildup causes clips to loosen over time.

What to Avoid

✕Never sleep in wet extensions
✕Never use a regular towel to rub extensions dry - pat gently
✕Never use box dye on extensions - always consult a colorist
✕Never use clarifying shampoo more than once per month
✕Never pull or tug at tangled extensions - always detangle gently from the bottom up
✕Never apply heat above 450°F
